KELLYVILLE,
Okla. (April 26, 2008) - Tommy Romine, Carl Lewis
and Rick McKinney picked up their second victories of the
season while new winners emerged in three classes at Creek
County Speedway on Saturday.
Danny Smith waited patiently to make his
move in the sprint car main event and with five laps
remaining Smith slipped inside of Frank Sudduth to post his
first victory of the season. Sudduth jumped off the pole
into the early lead and held a tight inside line with Smith
giving chase. Smith tried to challenge on the high side for
much of the race but the high groove was not providing
enough traction. On lap 15 Smith squeezed inside of Sudduth
on the backstretch and edged into the lead in turn three.
After a lap 19 restart Smith continued to lead leaving
Sudduth with second. Waylon Weaver held onto third and Roy
Larkin passed points leader Jamie Passmore on the final lap
to finish fourth.
Justin White led all 20 laps to win the
modified 'A' feature. Danny Ratcliff followed for the first
10 laps before giving way to Jason Redman. The yellow flag
then waved on lap 13 and while making laps under the yellow
Redman came to a stop on the front straightaway. Redman was
towed to the pits and Mark Hughes moved up to second on the
restart. Hughes challenged White on lap 15 but could not
make the pass and White regained the front spot to win.
Hughes settled for second but took over the points lead with
his finish. Ratcliff was third.
Tommy Romine won his second super stock
feature of the season to retain his points lead after four
races. Romine was the third driver to lead the 20-lap event
leading the final five laps.
Daniel Pruitt led the first five laps. Following a restart
Trent McBride roared past but two laps later Pruitt was back
in front. On lap nine McBride moved back out front and led
for six laps before Romine closed in. Romine pulled into the
lead on lap 15 winning over McBride and Pruitt in third.
Carl Lewis won a nine lap mini stock main
after numerous yellow flags took the race beyond its 20
minute time limit and forced track officials to throw the
checkered flag early.
Jerad Traster led through the first six laps as five yellow
flags delayed the race. After a fifth restart Lewis edged
past Traster for the lead on lap seven.
Nick Gauntt passed Mark Duensing at the halfway mark and
pulled away to win his first pure stock main event. Duensing
led the first eight laps before Gauntt pulled alongside at
the cross flags. Duensing finished second with Ed Gragg
climbing to third.
Rick McKinney took advantage of a lap five restart to jump
into the lead and win his second straight front wheel drive
feature. Aaron Huelsenbeck led Kimberly Bishop for the first
four laps before the yellow waved for Eric Barnes who lost a
wheel. On the restart McKinney moved from third past Bishop
and Huelsenbeck for the lead. Following a restart with two
laps remaining Huelsenbeck challenged McKinney on the final
lap but the defending champion held for the win.
Saturday racing return to a
7 p.m. start time. Sprints, modified, super stock, mini
stock and pure stock will be racing while the front wheel
drive class will have the night off.
