KELLYVILLE,
Okla. (May 3, 2008) - Former sprint car champion
Roy Larkin found his way into the winners circle for the
first time in 2008 and it was enough to give him the points
lead Saturday night at Creek County Speedway.
Leroy Cook, Jr. won a hard fought
modified main event while Carl Lewis repeated in mini
stocks, Mark Duensing won for the second time in pure
stocks, and Matt French led all but one lap on the way to
winning the super stock feature.
Larkin seemed to get faster as the laps
wound down in the 20-lap sprint feature. Larkin chased down
second place Waylon Weaver on lap 13 but needed two more
laps to finally get by. Larkin then reeled in race leader
Nicholas Lucito and the two ran side-by-side as they roared
into turn one of lap 18. Larkin came out of two turn with
the lead and led the final two laps for the victory. Lucito
dropped to third on the final lap giving way to Evan Sewell
who finished second. After the checkered Lucito turned his
sprinter over in turn three. He was not hurt.
The race got underway with Nigel Calvert jumping into an
early lead over Lucito and Larkin. On lap six the yellow
waved for two incidents. Sewell had spun off turn one while
Calvert and Larkin were involved in a collision in turn
three. The restart put Lucito into the lead ahead of Weaver
and Larkin. Lucito appeared headed for his first win but a
lap 16 yellow closed up the field and set up Larkin for his
move into the lead two laps later.
Cook had to battle with Jason Redman and
Justin White to capture the modified main event. Cook lead
early but Redman challenged on lap six and pulled into a
slim lead. Cook did not give up and stormed back into the
lead on lap nine. Cook held on to his lead as Nick Henson
and Redman battled for the runner-up spot. Redman was later
involved in a mishap and Henson held on to second ahead of
third place Kevin Risley.
French wasted little time taking command
of the super stock feature. French was out front after just
two laps and he remained their for the next 18 laps. James Esmond
held down second until the final lap when points leader
Tommy Romine managed to take away second on the final lap.
Robert Scott and Jimmy Owen rounded out the top five.
The race was red flagged four laps in when Robert Kirk got
sideways in turn one and barrel rolled. Kirk was not hurt.
Carl Lewis got a little help when leader
Michael Stucks left the race at the halfway mark. Lewis
inherited the lead and held it to the finish to win his
second straight and third mini stock feature in five weeks.
Stucks led early on and was chased by pole sitter Donnie Gramblin.
Lewis passed Gramblin for second on lap five. But Gramblin ended
up finishing second.
Mark Duensing won for the second time in pure
stocks. Duensing led from the start and opened up a two turn
lead after eight laps before a yellow flag closed up the
field. But Duensing remained in the lead on the restart.
Robert Baxter worked his way into second until he had a flat
tire with one lap remaining. Nick Gauntt then moved up to
finish second.
Saturday the OCRS sprints
return for a wing, non-wing double header. The sprints will
race a full program with wings then will remove the wins and
race another complete show consisting of heats and main
event. The overall winner from both features will earn
$1,700. The feature pays $400 to start.
Super stocks, mini stocks
and front wheel drive classes will also be racing. Modifieds
and pure stocks will be off. Race time is 7 p.m.
