Ashwood Loses by Inches to York in Sprint Feature

KELLYVILLE, Okla. (August 21, 2010) - Travis Ashwood watched what would have been his first sprint car victory slip away when Jackie York edged him by inches at the checkered flag Saturday night at Creek County Speedway.

Ashwood was setting a strong pace but drove up into the cushion in turn one to start the final lap around the quarter-mile oval. Ashwood pulled back down in the groove and remained in the lead although the bobble allowed York to close the gap. York pulled alongside off the final turn and it was a drag race to the finish with York just edging ahead as Kimberly Bishop waved the checkered flag.

Tanner had to hang on to win over Jeff Record who was close behind. Record passed Mike Eastwood for second on lap nine and closed in on Tanner in what was a race to the finish. Eastwood finished third.

In the FWD under 21 class Russell Beck, Jr. set the early pace with Hill in second. Midway through the race Hill started closing the gap and drove around Beck two laps from the finish. Beck held on to second with points leader Brittany Vieheller finishing third.

York Tightens Points Race with Sprint Victory

KELLYVILLE, Okla. (August 7, 2010) - Crashes plagued the sprint car feature event at Creek County Speedway on Saturday. But when the checkered finally waved Ricky York had his second win of the season and moved within 42 points of points leader Brent Bates.

Ron Murphy led the early laps before Nicholas Lucito and Bates tangled on lap three to bring out the yellow. The turn one incident resulted in Bates on the hook with a damaged front end. Lucito was able to restart.

Robert Claunch took over the lead on the restart but Chris Pillars pulled up and mounted a strong challenge. The two ran wheel-to-wheel before Pillars took over on lap six. Two laps later Claunch and Lucito got together in turn two. Five yellow flags forced the race to be shortened to 10 laps due to the 30-minute time limit. But York moved into the lead on the final lap to win over Pillars and Brady Demeree.
